Board Committees
There are so many ways to get involved to support Alternative Education across the country!

Connect
This committee primarily focuses on planning and executing the annual conference. This committee strives to provide international, national, state, and regional opportunities for alternative education professionals and their partners to network, collaborate, and participate in professional learning specific to research and best practices in alternative/non-traditional education.
Main Focus of work currently:
2025 Conference Planning

Advocate
This committee’s aim is to provide a nationally unified voice of advocacy for students in alternative/non-traditional schools. To promote understanding and support from state departments and agencies, school districts, charters, and policy makers. They believe to effect positive change in alternative education, they must focus on reforming alternative education statewide policies and practices.
Main focus of work currently:
Revising Graduation Position Statement, Creating National Alt. Ed Day, Enhancing Advocacy on Federal level

Include
This committee believes that students in alternative settings have the same aptitudes and abilities as students in non-traditional settings. They believe in equity-focused education where all students have access to the same resources and educational rigor and support diversity in gender, age, race, sex, class, religion, ethnicity, ability, language, sexual orientation, or gender identity. They believe in and will renew their commitment to working even harder for schools and communities to recognize the value and worth of all individuals.

National Teacher/Leader Awards, Monthly Webinars

Innovate
In an effort to enhance the quality of alternative education across the globe, the NAEA has created 15 Exemplary Practices from research to enhance the scope of education for those unsuccessful in a traditional setting. It is the NAEA’s belief that as educators we must support transformative educational research. This committee works on the Exemplary Practices Cohort Model School program and other Exemplary Practice projects including updating the current 2.0 version and developing a 3.0 version.
